In June, Google blocked the largest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack ever. At the highest point, they were receiving 46 million requests per second. This is comparable to all of the visits to Wikipedia a day in just 10 seconds. A DDoS attack floods a network with useless information which normally grinds everything to a halt as the network cannot get through the information it actually needs to use. Emil Kiner, senior product manager of Google’s cloud armor said “The geographic distribution and types of unsecured services leveraged to generate the attack matches the Meris family of attacks”
Meris is malware that infects machines that can then be used to DDoS attack networks. There has been a huge increase in the number of attacks since the beginning of the year. There has been a documented 203% increase in the number of attacks in the first six months of 2022 compared to the first six months of 2021.
With this level of increase in DDoS attacks, it is now more important than ever to ensure your services are protected. Netlink Technology’s Managed Hosting Services are hosted on a privately owned network with 2.0Tbps of DDoS Protection as standard. Contact us today for more information.
