The Co chief executive of Kakao which owns South Korea’s largest messaging app
KakaoTalk has resigned after a massive outage last weekend. A fire had damaged servers
which meant the messaging app was down for more than eight hours. 47m people use the
app in South Korea. Mr Namkoong apologised for the outage and said that he would be
leading a taskforce to oversee the aftermath of the incident.

The outage raised concerns in the country on people’s reliance on the messaging app
servers for nationwide communication. The South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said
that the government would be looking into the companies dominance in the services they
provide.

It just goes to show the vast effect of today’s technology and its use in the daily lives of both
individual users and businesses.
